This review is long over due, I have Larry's conversion unit since 2013 & after more than 100K rounds(I stop keeping notes after that)it shoots & function well. Only issue I had which is my fault is I lost 1 top railing screw way back in 2015 & Larry took care of it & sent me a replacement. The conversion unit runs so well that I have stop using my colt conversion that I have since the early 80's. If you guys have any doubt regarding Larry's conversion unit Do Not you will be so happy with it. Mike

No Excuses - or Alibis

After much deliberation I chose a Nelson Conversion with iron sights to enable economical indoor practice on a Service Pistol frame. The unit is well engineered; materials and workmanship are top-notch. I expected some minor magazine tuning (call Larry, he'll talk you through it) and find it works equally well on my Gold Cup .45 and my SA 9mm Range Officer - with no ejector modifications required to either. Installation is as easy as the web site claims and field stripping and reassembly is easier than a 1911.

I function tested it with Aguilla Standard Velocity, Eley TenX, and CCI Paper Box. The Aguilla and Eley functioned fine with the nine-pound recoil spring; I needed to change to the eight-pound spring to get reliable function with CCI. After running about two bricks of CCI through it in NMC practice I have yet to experience a failure - NO ALIBIS!

I don't have access to a machine rest and I don't have an optical sight for it, so 'accuracy' testing was off a bench over sandbags with iron sights. At 25 yards I get five-shot groups that occupy about a third of the B-8 X-ring. My 70-year old eyes don't do any better with my Model 41.

Back in the '70s conventional wisdom for aspiring Bullseye shooters was to buy a Gold Cup and a Model 41 or Supermatic and shoot .22 and Hardball until you went Distinguished and fired in the National Trophy Team Match. There wasn't much of a selection of .22 conversions in those days. Today I think I'd recommend a quality 1911 .45 and a Nelson Conversion instead. Use the money you save for practice ammo. Be sure to dry-fire a lot. It's good for the soul and won't hurt your dry-fire safe Nelson Conversion a bit.

I've been shooting a std Nelson conversion on a Colt receiver for 2 years @ 25 and 50 yards, with superb accuracy and 100% reliabilityIMO, this is THE BEST Conversion available for the 1911 platform.

The perfect conversion unit for practical shooters. Great accuracy, great reliability, durable, drop-able magazines, and mags for single and double-stack. This conversion meets all needs. Substantially better than many other conversions, as well as dedicated 1911-ish .22 pistols. Zeeero complaints!

Purchased 8 months ago for Bullseye shooting. Ransom rested 7/8" @ 50 yards. My scores indoor and out have gone up. No malfunctions to date.

I've put thousands of rounds through mine. Flawless. The few issues I had were immediately corrected by Larry. You can't get a better conversion anywhere.

Purchased with both the iron sight and scope rail. Ran on a Sig Tac rail frame. No malfunctions and a tack driver at 25 yds. My wife loves this setup!
